Introducing the Sensory Nook

Want to learn about some of the many things the Evoke Team got up to during May?

Introducing Sensory Nooks - the inclusive calming refuge ergonomically designed to create inviting, safe personal spaces with isolation.

The Sensory Nook is an amazingly revolutionary way to make your school, public service, care home, event or business more inclusive to people and families who are neurodiverse, have learning difficulties and special needs.

The sensory enhancements to the Nook produce an encapsulated environment to positively influence mood, reduce challenging behaviours and lower anxiety levels. A highly adaptable space particularly effective for neurodiversity including autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. The Sensory Nook is a practical way to reduce exclusion in the classroom and in public spaces.

You can find the Sensory Nook range here, and the the Sensory Nook XL range here.

One example of the regular Sensory Nook range is the Sensory Nook Support - an instant and flexible well-being provision for everyone, designed to create a noise-reducing and calming environment utilising controllable lighting to positively influence mood and support individuals with hidden disabilities.

There are four main reasons for why your school needs a Sensory Nook Support: The Sensory Nook Support reduces external sensory overload providing a safe space for pupils with SEND, provides a personalised learning space within the larger area that is ideal for 1-to-1 and supported small group work, can be moved to exactly where it is needed with it's modular design and full customisability, and creates an affordable, self contained mobile unit that creates an inclusive sensory supportive learning space that reduces challenging behaviour and cost of exclusion.

Another opportunity Evoke had during May was to spend the day at Newland School for Girls along with other businesses, delivering sessions based around the Year 10 students having preparation for work experience by working with local businesses.

In our sessions ran by our Director Nevenka the students received an introduction into classroom VR which covered learning about the benefits of VR in education, how VR could improve the students learning, and the completion of fun work sheets with different activities including designing posters and writing blogs about everything the students have learnt throughout the days sessions.

It was both lovely to work alongside the students and to hear their thoughts on using the VR kits in the classroom, with some of the students saying the following:

"It gave us the opportunity to visit and experience things that we can only imagine of, and makes the learning more exciting and fun";
"It's amazing, we should use this in Geography as we can see all parts of the world";
"For subjects such as Science, English, History and Geography VR could be beneficial by immersing students into things that they are being taught, providing visual learning to make these subjects more memorable";
"All of us are engaged because it's fun".

On 9th June the Evoke team alongside family and friends will be taking part in the Run For All Hull 10K as we fundraise for the Aim Higher Charity.
